Find a travel buddy in Lisbon
Portugal · Europe

Lisbon is one of the easiest cities in Europe to travel to alone and one of the most rewarding to share. Long lunches, late fado and seven hills of walking all go better with someone to split the day with.

When to go
March to June and September to October are the comfortable months. July and August are hot and busy; winter stays mild but wetter.
What is better with company in Lisbon
- Day trips to Sintra and Cascais, where a shared taxi or car costs the same as one seat on a tour
- Tasca dinners, which are built around ordering several small plates rather than one main
- Fado houses, most of which have a minimum spend that is far easier to justify between two
- A night out in Bairro Alto or Cais do Sodré, which is a very different evening on your own
Practical notes
- Trams and metro are cheap and easy; a rechargeable Navegante card covers both.
- The hills are real. Comfortable shoes matter more than any packing list item.
- English is widely spoken in the centre, and Portuguese hosts are patient with attempts at it.
- Most restaurants open late for dinner. Anything before 8pm will feel empty.

Common questions
Is Lisbon good for solo travellers over 30?
Yes. It has a mixed-age visitor crowd rather than a party-hostel one, walkable neighbourhoods and plenty of places where eating alone is normal. It is also small enough that meeting someone for one day of your trip is easy to arrange.
How do I find someone to travel to Lisbon with?
Add your dates on BFFTOGO and you will see other members whose Lisbon trips overlap yours, with their ages, interests and the exact days they are there. You can message anyone whose plans line up.
Do we have to travel the whole trip together?
No, and most people do not. Sharing a day trip, a dinner or one weekend is the normal way this works.
